I grew up surrounded by people who had fought in WW2. My father and his older brother enlisted the Royal Artillery in Feb 1940. Their convoy arrived in Liverpool on April 25,1940. They fought in the North African and Italian campaigns; Dad's brother was killed at Monte Cassino in the winter of 1945. My father-in-law's sister was killed when the ferry SS Caribou was torpedoed in Cabot Strait by U-69 in April 1942. I guess that's why I've always been interested in that war.
