That error means the database on the device has become corrupted. How, I don't know. Apart from not safely ejecting the device, I haven't found a consistent reason for this to happen.

Unless you have a backup of the database, the fix is to signout of the Kobo account on the device. The signout will remove the database and replace it with an empty one, restart the device and then take you through the setup. That includes signing into your Kobo account and then it will process all the sideloaded books.

If you have a backup of the database, restore that to the device, eject the device and restart it.
