It doesn't explain my interest. I had no relatives "close enough to count" who were in WW2 (or Korea, or Vietnam for that matter. And, no, they weren't draft dodgers. ha). I think that there was a great-great-great uncle or two in WW1. It seems like there are a lot of people who do have the interest because of what you suggested, however.

That is probably the main reason for some people, though. I know that if my grandfather had been in WW2 that it would have sharpened my interest considerably from what it already is.
