A couple of years or so ago, I made a post about the National Academies Press (NAP) making almost all of their (very sizable number of) books available for free as pdf's.

Well . . . I want to mention this again. I know that the Mobileread membership isn't static and that new people are joining all of the time. Some newbies might really appreciate learning this information. Too, NAP keeps adding new book titles all of the time and there are, in fact, more of them now than there were when I made that post. Finally, none of us have perfect memories (and in the case of some of us they seem to be getting worse all of the time. But I digress.), so a little reminder doesn't seem out of place.

For your information (or to bring it back to memory, as the case may be), NAP publishes mainly STEM (Science, Technology, E-?, Math)-type stuff. I say "stuff," because they publish more than books--for example, reports.

That kind of book has a well-deserved reputation for being expensive--very expensive to this tightwad . . . er . . . frugal person. I know that some of them at NAP are just south of $100 USD, as hardbacks, and there may be more than just a few like that. So, to get these books free as pdf ebooks is a real boon.

If the above sounds interesting, I suggest that you head over to the National Academies Press' website. Then click on the prominent button at the upper right corner of the webpage that says "browse by topic." You'll get a drop-down menu of their books, organized by topic.
