FINALLY!
Even though I'd swear I'd done this exact process before this time I got access to a browse menu from /mnt. The only thing different is that I'd gone back into settings and added more file formats to be downloaded (originally I only had .epub. .mobi and .pdf. I added some comics formats). Suddenly CC can open the right folder!
