Unfortunately, if the publisher is "very small," as Fbone suspects, they can't afford to hire someone to do all of the necessary jobs. One or two people wear many different hats--graphic artist, IT guy (or gal), desktop publisher, advertising and other marketing person, public relations specialist, phone-answerer and all around secretary, accountant, "go-fer," janitor, maintenance person, and several other ones that I know that I've bound to have missed.

There is no one person who can do all of the above jobs well. Everyone has different levels of ability in each one. So you just do the best with what you've got. Sometimes the best isn't very good, as the copy writing that Fbone shared reveals.

If it sounds like I know those things from experience, it's because I do. Boy, do I know.
