You might want to take a look at the Boox C67ml Carta. It has a Carta eInk screen like the Paperwhite with slightly less DPI (212 vs 300 of the Paperwhite). It has a front lit screen, 8 gig onboard memory with microSD card slot. It supports Adobe DRM. It is not tied into a particular book store, so you will have to sideload books or install the bookstore app of your choosing from the Google Play store, which is preinstalled on the device. I've installed the Overdrive app. It seems to work, but I haven't tried to read anything through it yet.
You can find the Boox C67ml Carta on Amazon, Ebay, or Banggood.com. I got mine through Amazon. Make sure you search for the c67ml Carta - there is another version just called the c67ml which doesn't have the Carta screen.
