End of the world short story - exceptional

This was a short story I read and I've never forgotten most of it.

It concerns a group of people who gather in a friend's yard, in lawn chairs, to witness (and acknowledge) that the world is ending and that the time is known. It's told with a great amount of pathos.

Can anyone recognize this? It may have been written by an Indie writer, which would be all the more amazing.

Thanks.
