I'm also rather fond of Swedish detective stories from the 1970s. My absolute favourites are Per Wahloo and Maj Sjowall's Martin Beck series, closely followed by K Arne Blom. (Unfortunately, only two of Blom's were translated into English: The Moment of Truth and The Limits of Pain.)

More recently, I have been reading Karin Alvtegen and Karin Fossum with interest. Helene Tursten does a good police procedural. And Ake Edwardson is interesting, but a bit bloody for my taste.
