Normally I use this sequence.
lets point out that I never did the factory reset while up or downgrading, I only tell where I should do it.
1. I make a complete backup of the drive (called koboereader) including all sub directory's ( so including the .kobo directory because there is your configuration files and other needed things.) without the upgrade file placed or downloaded.
2. I download and install the firmware update (or in your case the downgrade)
3. I unzip the package into the .kobo directory
4. Uncut power, the device will reboot after a few seconds and perform the upgrade.
5. Factory reset.
6. Restore the backup.
During point 4 the device will delete the placed firmware so after the device is ready, the upgrade files are gone.
So in my backup are:
The entire .kobo directory including all sub directory's.
.adobe-digital-editions directory
.kobo-images directory and all sub directory's
Digital Editions directory with all sub directory's
All the book directory's
And these files (if present)
metadata.calibre
driveinfo.calibre
If I really think there are problems ahead:
1. I make a complete backup of the drive (called koboereader) including all sub directory's ( so including the .kobo directory because there is your configuration file.) without the upgrade file placed or downloaded.
2. Factory reset.
3. I download and install the firmware update (or in your case the downgrade)
4. I unzip the package into the .kobo directory
5. Uncut power, the device will reboot after a few seconds and perform the upgrade.
6. Restore the backup.
In all cases backups are made before downloading and installing the upgrade files, because if you include the downloaded and placed upgrade files in your backup, they will be removed after update, but if you restore it,the device sees the upgrade files again and start doing it over again.
With the upgrade files I mean the file found here:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=185660
So very simple said.. you whistle and don't think about the update, don't install files,do nothing.
Go to your koboereader drive and copy everything on it to a safe location, no exeption, all files, all subs, just like the way it was.
Then start thinking about downloading the upgrade file.
Follow this guidelines to install it, Kindly given by Murg.
Installation Instructions for Direct Zip Files
Get a zip file.
Unzip the zip file. This may not be necessary on more modern versions of Windows, as you can access the contents of a zip file without unzipping it.
If going to a previous version, you may want to do a Factory Reset.
If you have any patches installed, you may want to uninstall them. Please refer to any documentation for the patch for more information.
Make sure that the Kobo Desktop is NOT running.
Connect your device to the computer and select Connect on the device (if asked).
Copy the entire contents of the zip file to the .kobo directory on the device. Do not copy the original zip file itself to the device.
Safely remove the device from Windows (or your operating system of choice).
Disconnect the device from your computer.
The device will now install the new software.
The zip file contains the following:
\Upgrade directory and subdirectories - Linux boot and kernel
manifest.md5sum - md5 hashes for the \Upgrade directory
KoboRoot.tgz - this is the firmware
Follow my first step plan.
Success.
