I know some folks have bought from Chapters in Canada instead and gotten a pretty good deal with the current exchange rate.
The only independent bookstores I can remember that stocked Kobo's (I know there are more) are Politics & Prose in Washington DC and Greenlight Bookstore in Brooklyn NY, but I don't know if they still do, nor if they have the current models.
