That's fine that you don't want a streaming box like a Roku, but that's your choice and it's the way the market has gone. Why should Amazon be expected to spend the time, money and support costs to develop apps for blu-ray players when the market is moving in another direction.
According to their compatible device list there are also 2014 models that have it. Also, who says it's Amazon that took it off new devices? I know Netflix has payed some manufacturers in the past to be the only all you can eat streaming service on a device.
