No.. You first copy everything, including the .Kobo directory first to a safe place, then you place the new firmware files in the .Kobo directory, if you copy it after you placed the firmware file and you put back the backup where the firmware files are included, it will start again with the firmware and again up or downgrade.. So copy everything BEFORE you place the upgrade firmware files to a safe place, then perform up/downgrade and then copy the backup files back.. The firmware files may not be a part of the backup, because restored the system reads the firmware files and start all over again..
