Again, just for folks' information, I downgraded from 3.18 to 3.17.3 without doing a factory reset, although I unpatched first. Turns out that I'm getting a double flash (no black bar) occasionally upon chapter changes that I don't remember getting before on 3.17.3, so I'll now try to restore 3.17.3 after a full factory reset and report what happens. The tip above to simply copy your books first makes it easier, for sure.

EDIT: Full reset appears to be helpful and to have corrected the double flash I described.
