So while it may appear to be all good and great at brick and mortar, they all have policies. You just need to know what they are.
And I'm actually amazed that any store would accept a return without a receipt. I think that's incredibly forgiving. Unless they have their store stickers pasted everywhere on the box of course, but even then it could have been bought a year ago for all they know.

Last year I returned an unopened hard drive to a local computer store within a few days, because I decided to order 2 larger ones. Getting out of the car the wind just tore the receipt away and it was gone. I went in anyway and explained what happened hoping they'd have pity on me (it was a brutally windy day), and then I remembered I placed the order for pickup online so they should have a copy in the computer system and I was saved. But had it not been for the online order, I feel the store would have been perfectly within their rights to refuse to accept the return. Most every B&M store clearly states return allowed only within xx days and must have your receipt.
