As has been posted before, the Nook HD has an LCD screen--same technology as in most computer screens. Do you feel eyestrain when using your computer for long periods of time?
As AnemicOak posted--it's an individual experience. Some people can't read from LCDs for extended period of time without feeling eye fatigue and others it doesn't bother at all.

Personally, I much prefer reading novels on an e-ink screen--but do use my iPad (which has an LCD screen) for reading magazines, etc on.
