*1 - The jailbreak should have survived, run the 'hot fix' and then re-install everything just like any other full image update.

*2 - 5.6.1.1 on the PW1 can be downgraded, see thread on that subject.

*3 - I don't know if it can be done, perhaps you can add it to "Kindle Menu" -- which, if you haven't seen it, replaces the menu bar with one of its own.

*4 - "battery dead in a day" - - that does not sound correct - - under what conditions?
Translation:
The battery in a Kindle is typically only good for about 4 hours of run time.
So you either have a very low capacity battery (and the Kindle is sleeping normally between page turns) or something that is preventing the Kindle from "going to sleep" in-between page turns.

Keep it on external power until that problem can be solved.
The Kindles can 'self destruct' trying to write to the flash memory with a very low capacity and/or deeply discharged battery.

*5 - Airplane mode is 'sticky' once enabled, it stays that way.
**Except** right after an OTA update.
