Usually companies tend to try to avoid exchanging devices with bad pixels, however the amount of dead pixels usually is about 12 deadpixels max. i guess for your case it's pretty serious issue and I wouldn't try to open the device to fix it by yourself.

Thanks. Hubby's out tomorrow but he can take me back on Monday. I might ring the store tomorrow though, see if I can check if they have any as its Argos and they tend to only have one per store round here. Hopefully they will be fine, but you never know until you get there.
