T68: Getting a Command-line Shell

I've broken my T68's screen, and before I try to send it off to get fixed, I would like to back up the contents of the internal partitions.

Because I can't use the touch screen, I can't get into the device to use Root Explorer etc. I can still connect a USB cable to it and I can ping it over the wifi.

Does anybody know if there is a way to get a command-line shell on the device, so I can run tar and copy the files? I've tried adb shell and Cydia Impactor, and all I get at present is "error: insufficient permissions for device". I have previously rooted the device.

Many thanks in advance for suggestions!

Cheers, Warren
