You didn't do anything wrong.

calibre updated the library metadata but does not update the in-book metadata except in exported copies.
The viewer will not show updates until and unless you use the Embed Metadata function (you can add it to the toolbar or use the right-click context menu. See Preferences ==> Toolbar.)

As for your Kobo Glo, it should have had the updated version if you resent the book -- if not, your EPUB may have broken cover metadata.
Use Polish book instead of Embed Metadata. It has an option to update the cover, and add one if none exists yet.
