The thing is, the annotations aren't lost, they were never there. Sideloading books dowloaded from Amazon into Kindle for PC is like copying the original file into Kindle for PC. That's non-sense...
Also, give Bluestacks another shot! I tried it several months ago and couldn't get it to work on the Mac, and now it runs really well (and let's me review and copy annotations from my Personal Documents).
Also, I have posted this already, there’s a little bit of hope that Amazon might enable PDs for their desktop versions, at least that’s what a CS rep told me
