It may surprise you, though I don't see why, to find out that many die-hard Pratchett fans were less than enthused at the early Rincewind books.
His first few books -- especially The Color of Magic and The Light Fantastic -- are widely regarded as, let's just say, not his best.

That's good to note. I read the first couple and liked-not-loved them. The later books have been on my "someday I oughta" list for a long time. Maybe it's time to bump them up.
