When wearing my fall/winter coat, I can put a 6 inch reader into its pockets, case and all. With an 8 inch reader, that wouldn't be possible. (Or maybe, at a stretch, when using an ultra-thin shell/case on such a reader.)
So, while I would like a 7-8 inch reader, the 6 inch one is quite convenient

I agree; a 4GB Kindle (with 3 GB usable) holds around 1500 books, at least. The majority of people won't own/have that number of books. Even if the e-reader would have an expansion slot, it would need strong file management capabilities to effectively use such a large number of books.
edit: Amazon will always build the Kindle to be 'good enough' for most of the public that uses it. While I would like some more options á la Kobo, I think many customers don't actually care. The number of PC's and Mac's Ive seen with all settings set to the out of the box defaults makes me believe that there are many people who actually never change anyhting on an e-reader (except maybe registering it) after unboxing it.
