Oh, man. What deep pit have I stumbled into this time? My apologies to both of you. But, in fact, Wikipedia suggests that it was these stupid American hoomins (not me) who contorted the word longue to lounge (i.e., not my fault that I live with these cretins). And a chaise longue (see, I can learn new things) seems to differ from a couch only in the number of humps on which to lay my head when I wish to chase squirrels. So there!
