Not pointless, Many devices require the 'start reading' place be marked (they use that to skip the front matter and jump to the 'text' semantic. If you fail to set that place explicitly, calibre does it for you... At the beginning (first file)


BTW
The TOC tool can be used to Add/remove NCX entries in a book from the Library level. It will NOT remove inline (HTML) TOC
