Oh I wasn't singling you out. Your post just reminded me of the people that DO get hot and bothered by them. Like they think they have some sort of inherent right to click on buttons willy-nilly without any consequences or something.

Still... even those that got chrome on their machnes that way actually have to start USING chrome to add to it's popularity, no? Can it be silently made the default browser without ever launching it?

I personally think it's a bit of reach to imagine that the "add-on tools" technique is responsible for anything other than a tny portion of Chrome's popularity. It's much easier for me to believe that it's becoming increasingly popular because 1) people like it (or find it too convenient NOT to use; or 2) Android.
