What the system does is Lock. Lock deactivates the screen and sends the reader into sleep mode (less battery use). Waking up is possible by the reader on/off button.
What Coolreader does is Standby. Standby is simply switches off the light and shows the book cover. No battery saving as far as I know. A tap on any part of the screen will interrupt the standby mode. Purpose: to not forget the front light on and there is a quick way to continue the reading. Additionally there is button drawn on the lower part of the bookcover in standby mode. It has no function other than to be able to distinguish if the reader is in Standby mode or turned off with bookcover.

So if the system is set to 5 minutes (lock) and the Coolreader standby is 10 minutes, the system will lock the reader after 5 minutes and Coolreader standby cannot happen. The meaningful chain of event (you should set them in this order): standby -> lock -> turnoff, so standby should happen first. (Actually I don't like the lock and turnoff times at all, they are way too short for me, so I set them off, and use only standby.)

It is not possible, because 1. standby doesn't deactive the screen 2. the on/off button on the bottom of the screen is just a decoration.
