Congratulations on your purchase. I also own both a Sony and a reader that supports MobiPocket -- the Kindle. I'm a gadget geek and since I was wanting to learn all about the book-making software, I wanted to own an actual device each format instead of relying on the PC-based readers/emulators.

I have never powered down my Sony Reader nor my Kindle. Rather, I just put them into the "hibernate" mode where they are drawing almost no power. They *will* exhaust the battery in about 3-4 weeks, however.

And, I always have the cover on the readers while in use, so the "cold" aspect of the metal case on the Sony hasn't been a problem.

I have not yet applied the upgrade to my Sony reader to support ePub and reflowable PDF files. I bought it used and it came with one DRMed book that I want to read before I register it with the Sony store. (I'm afraid that registering it will cause it to remove the book bought by the previous owner.) For no reason that I can give, I've been stalling on getting that book read. It's good, just not compelling, if you get my meaning.
