Custom columns are by definition Book attributes

The Author Link field can be accessed in the Manage Authors list - right click an Author name in Book Details sidebar, or Tag Browser sidebar - it wants a valid URI - could be a web address, a local file system address or anything else that will cough up an URI that the operating system knows how to reach.
