Nick_1964 - assuming you use Windows you could install the Portable version and leave it as English - then you could use it as a reference point if/when you don't understand something - also useful as a place to test out ideas such as those proposed above.
The translations are done by volunteers, and because bloody Kovid is forever adding new features its hard to keep the translations up to date
