For the image to change on eInk it needs electricity; the image displayed by eInk is static - it only consumes power when you update it to a new image. You can break eInk screen and it won't change the display much - until you try to draw a new image, then it all goes haywire.
It's impossible to repair, even if you could find a replacement screen [which is usually as expensive as a new reader], out of all Kobo devices the Aura is probably the most difficult to open and actually perform such replacements.
Basically a reader with broken eInk is worthless.
Best you could hope for is sell it for a small sum to someone who might be able to use a broken reader for something. Like someone who bricked theirs:
