Pretty sure it's not a Marvin issue. I'm running ios 8.4.1 with Marvin 2.8.5. It connects with Calibre OPDS just fine.
I'd check if you can access the server via browser by typing the address. e.g. "xxxx.com:8080" (without the /opds)
Also, check to make sure the username/password is set properly (if used).
