Correct form, wrong tab (unless you are extracting data from another column)
the Main tab allows you to bulk change all the books that were selected
eg
Setting Author to:
Mary Smith
Series to:
Neverending 
IMHO The Manage Series PI is better as it also allow ordering, skipping (missing), fractional values
