ironically, i just happened to be passing by one of the (several) giant screens which had been installed in various locations around the city so that everyone with no exceptions could participate in this momentous event (or at least witness it) and we stopped to watch a few minutes just at the precise moment they got the first goal, and i also missed it because i was watching the crowd. they were so tightly massed a cat couldn't have got through there, and when the goal went in they all started yelling as one man and stamping and blowing air horns and such, it was absolutely deafening. they were so agitated that a visible cloud of dust rose up above their heads (this particular screen was installed on a large area which at the time was covered with gravel). it was like a cartoon.
