but seriously, zidane was a national hero after that. you would have thought he single-handedly deflected an asteroid which was about to pulverise the continent and kill us all by flying under his own powers into space and blowing it to bits with his laser vision. complete strangers were running up to each other in the streets screaming with joy and dancing together. and i'm talking about the peripheral neighborhoods, not the champs élysées !! madness, i tell you.
