I've had really bad experience with my Kobo Aura HDs, three screen failures out of four units.
Kobo automatically blames any substrata lines on the customer and refuses to honor the warranty, even though the device was not dropped or mishandled.
IMO, the Kobo Aura is poorly designed and made (poor tolerances and fit and finish), which results in structural problems.
I personally would stick with a Kindle. I gave the last remaining Aura HD to my wife, since she really does not like reading on a 6" screen (too small for her) and I use a Voyage now. The Voyage has less glitchy software than the Kobo, but it is also much better made. Amazon's customer support is also infinitely better than Kobo's.
I really hope Amazon comes up with a 7", or better, 8" screen -- I personally find the reading experience more immersive with a larger screen.
Good luck, whatever you decision.
