Most decently made ereaders should last a lot longer than a year and a half.... I have an original Kindle DX here, as well as a DXG and they both work perfectly fine, even though they are past retirement.

Only one of my Aura HDs has lasted over a year. The other two I have used are dead (bad screens) and so is the one I gave out as a present.

I personally like the larger size, but I am using a Voyage now and it's way, way, way better made than the Kobo, IMO.
