A direct download to what? Your Paperwhite? Your computer? Your Android phone? If you download to the Paperwhite, then (as has been discussed here already) the file type will be .kfx, which is not seen by Calibre. If to your computer, then that is something new, as nobody has been able to reproduce that yet, and I would be interested to know which book it is so that I can try to reproduce it. (Downloading to a PC using either the Kindle for PC app or the "download and transfer by USB" option both seem to produce regular .azw3 files)
