OTOH, I can't help but feel an acceptable alternative would be simply to offer an official developer's certificate in a "void-your-warranty-and-modify-your-device" optional update.
Ostensibly Amazon wants to offer a smooth experience, right?
So it shouldn't be a problem.
They will save more money by quitting the fight than they would make with this system.
