I just had a very similar event on my 700 which I've owned for three days. It happened when I loaded Time Magazine from a Calibre download. Started displaying right, then froze the system. Hard reset didn't work. And it wasn't until I plugged in the USB cable and waited for a few minutes that it suddenly came back to life. Alarming!

I deleted the Time file, and all seems well now.
