If you have a plot that needs to fit into a book, then writing a short book will be harder than writing a long book. Movies in directors cut are usually better. Dresden itself already is longer than originally planned, because Jim did not account for the dynamics of relationships.
Changes should have been book 10 and not book 12 if Jim would have strictly stuck to his master plan. I am sure his insights into divorce and his new engagement will give him some ideas on how to turn it into new Harry snarks - hopefully it will add a book or two. As much as I would like to get to the end, I rather he takes the scenic route and write more (more of Dresden that is). Only thing I don't want is that he drags his feet and writes slower - I hate to see him become as famous as JRR Martin. If it takes one other book inbetween Dresden books to speed up the next Dresden book, I am all for it.
