I'm lucky; I got an FLP card for my mother when seniors were free and so far, she seems to be grandfathered. But if it got pulled, I'd wait a while before rejoining, if I did at all.

I made the mistake of rejoining in late spring when FLP was buying nothing; someone said they'd run out of money because it was the end of their fiscal year. But since then, as you say, they've added only very few audiobooks to Overdrive.
My home library is using Axis 360 for new material, which I dislike, but in any case they haven't been doing too well adding audiobooks either.
I've never requested a book--if I really want something I buy it--but I do like to browse and see if something catches my eye or fits my mood. And the pickings have been slim.
While I'm ranting a bit about libraries, I wish they would let one search across all their audiobook catalogs at once, instead of separate searches at Overdrive, Axis 360, One-Click, or whatever. I don't care where they got the title from, I just want to know if I can borrow it!
