And for myself, I never change the light level, I never have a need to. In sunlight, it just makes the page look whiter against the text, but it's still the perfect level to read with at night for me or even in a pitch black room. The one setting just stays at the same position and never gets changed for me. So having it hidden in a menu is perfect for anyone who uses the light the same as I do.

No, a thousand times no, that would only make the situation worse. Unless they also give us a way to turn off the automatic feature, make it an option, then it would be fine as long as there's a choice. What's optimal for one person's eyes will not be suitable for another person.
The light needs to be fully adjustable and not according to what a device or a sensor thinks it should be.
