That is normal.
Calibre leaves what you started with and ADDS any conversion.

Conversions do not always go smoothly (say that 1000 times for PDF to whatever)

This way, you get to change a setting or two and give it another go

BTW CALIBRE allows one of Every format in that space (that is a LOT of formats)
