After popping up the question, I looked through the manual, which clearly states that the tips are wearable: "
The effectiveness of the supplied tip differs from that of the attached tip. Sony recommends replacing the tip when it becomes shorter than 1.5 mm (1/16 inch)."
So, those that use the pen frequently will definitely need to buy some spare parts.
