Personally if my Surface is on a table with the keyboard attached I use a mouse, if it's on my lap without a keyboard I use the pen and my finger. Going forward when I buy my next laptop (no the Surface is not a full replacement) I won't be bothered about whether it's a touchscreen or not as I won't be using my finger on a screen that's vertically in front of me, I'll use a mouse. And that i think is the issue, most people won't find a touchscreen natural if the device is vertically in front of them, if it's on their lap that's a different story.
