A useful tactic for me has been to check my local library ebook collection before hitting the 'buy' button. If the yearned-for book is available there, I either put it on hold or on a wishlist. It's easier since I've realized I've paid hundreds of dollars for books on sale that I may never have time to read.
The other useful, although accidental, tactic was to get a concussion that lingered on. Although I think the symptoms are now gone, I'm still having a heck of a time focusing. Really reduced the obsession to collect books. Well, not really, but we're not going to delve into my print cookbook collection. Interesting how obsessive and addictive-type characteristics so easily morph from one object to another as the first is brought under control. Embarrassing, but apparently I am in the right thread.
