Your post made me pull back out the CD I had been listening to non-stop from December 7-20. I met Malika Ayane, a talented up-and-coming singer from Milan on my trip to Torino in early December. She says she wants to come perform in Texas, because that's where Janis came from. Personally, I don't see a huge connection between her music and Ms. Joplin's, but she could definitely use more exposure here in the US.
