"pinch to adjust font size" bug is a very strange thing. I don't know what Kobo is trying to do. Probably they don't want us to buy Kobo ever again.
I'd do so indeed.
For now, in other hand, I stay with 12.1 firmware and things are fine. Don't think to upgrade soon.
