I was planning on buying a series of books. All were available. Now 3 out of 7 are restricted. How does that work? Why not all? And now I'm stuck with part 1 and unable to complete it.
Audible doesn't answer these questions. When I started to look into audiobooks I found that Downpour had a lot of geographic restrictions, which Audible didn't (seem to) have. So I went for Audible. Now I feel I've been lured by false promises.
And the stupid thing is I'm willing to pay, but this way I'm driven to torrents.

What probably happened is that the audio rights contract expired. I've had that happen on a few books that I put on my wish list, so it happens in the US as well. My guess is that it will eventually come back once the contract is renewed.
